I took a public speaking course with Roger in late 1990โ€™s. He was very supportive and helped me become comfortable speaking at public events. I have given many public speeches, preside over public trusteesโ€™ meetings, and even testified before Congress. I attribute my success back to his course.

Roger Van Hook was an inspiration. He always knew the right thing to say and had advice that helped each person in even the most difficult situation. His sense of humor immediately put a person at ease. And he never judged or criticized and listened with empathy and offered help unconditionally. Roger was a rare individual who we were fortunate to call a friend and mentor.

What a wonderful and fitting recognition of Roger’s legacy! The dedication of the gathering space at LBCC is sure to be a site of much inspiration and innovation for generations to come โ€“ a site of beginnings, which it has been for Dianne and Roger. I look forward to visiting it soon.

Roger Van Hook was by far the most important mentor in my professional career. His passion for his students built a fire in me to pursue a career in communications. I will forever be grateful.
