Life-Changing Teacher, Mentor, Colleague and Friend
Long Beach City College has dedicated a new commons on the Liberal Arts Campus to beloved former faculty member Roger Van Hook, who inspired generations of students from 1966 to 2004. The gathering space was unveiled during a special celebration of Roger’s life on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025 (Roger’s Birthday) to support the connection and growth of generations to come.

Roger’s speech communications students at Long Beach City College said he had the “magical ability to bring out the best in all of us.” He retired for the last time in 2008 after a 43-year career in the classroom that inspired many to follow in his footsteps.
